I just came back from holidays. I still feel numb and amid
a mix of cultures!
I love travelling! Always loved it! Since I became an
expat, I live travelling in a very different way… a very special way! Today I
get to know better and faster the cities I visit. I know what I to do on the
first day and I’m the one planning how to have the global view of that place.
The perspective I want to have, not what travel agencies choose for me (and for
thousands of other potential customers).
Above all, today I appreciate the possibility of
diving into local living, the daily experiences of the locals. I live like one
of them and in their midst. When I arrive to a new location, whether as a
tourist or as a new resident, I’ll do the same: want to capture the essence of
the environment, find out what's good for me to know and do. And it's very
interesting and challenging this plunge into the unknown!
But the feelings experienced when first arriving to a
new place are the most thrilling! The excitement on discovery is almost
childish! The intoxicating adrenaline! I only began to experience all of this after
leaving my comfort zone from my country, from my city. The effort I must do to adjust
to my moves around the world pays off when I’m traveling for leisure. Then, I don’t
feel the pressure to "succeed" and I enjoy the experience by itself.
And it's very, very good!
I know there are many other ways to travel and enjoy
new destinations: they are no better or worse than mine. They are different and
work out for those who lived them. But, this is my way and comes from my history
as a "citizen of the world"!
To travel!
Caroline
